What Can You Do

What can you do?

Get inspired to join our Hands off OUR hobby campaign
We want you to shout about how much you love keeping reptiles and amphibians and we also want the industry to tell politicians why you do what you do. We’ve got some simple suggestions for Fire bellied toadyou to show how much your animals mean to you and how you can say Hands Off Our Hobby to politicians as we approach the General Election on 7 May 2015. If we don’t all start to shout ‘Hands off our Hobby’ to politicians NOW campaigns to ban or restrict the keeping of exotic species could be successful in the future.

What’s happening in scotland

In February 2015 the Scottish Government announced a review into the exotic pet trade in Scotland after meeting with animal rights campaign group OneKind. This resulted in the following statement being issued: “….following discussions with animal welfare charity OneKind, where it was revealed that currently more than 1000 species of mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, and hundreds of fish species, are involved in the pet trade, Mr Lochhead is keen to review current legislation and explore the effect tighter controls on exotic pet ownership could have.”

The political quest to limit the fish and reptiles you can keep in Scotland has already started and if it can happen in Scotland then it won’t be long before campaign groups seek similar reviews in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Hands off our Hobby campaign needs to redress the balance and show politicians that we are a force which cannot be ignored.
